Random list of things about Logroño that amuse or confuse me

Or just things that I find interesting :)

1) In Logroño, you have to find a place to throw your garbage away. The thing that I think is really neat is that there are trash cans and all sorts of recycling bins around every corner, so there is no excuse for littering or not recycling. Even in my schools, there will be at least 3 'trash' cans: one for trash, one for paper, and another for plastic or something.

2) The stop signs say STOP. I thought they would say ALTO like they do in Mexico, but they don't.

3) The North of Spain is WAAAAAYYYY different than Southern Spain (which I L-O-V-E!!!). It is taking a while to get used to. Don't get me wrong, it is very beautiful, but the typical flamenco, tapas, sangria Spain is not the one I live in.

4) People stare here and have no shame when doing so. I will be walking around town and they spot me, and stare. When I look up and look at them, they don't shy away. They keep staring. I've stopped making eye contact with people because it just creeps me out.

5) There are more than just 2 sizes of glasses for beer here in Logroño. I ordered a Mahou the other night at a pintxos (that's another thing that I'll get to in a moment) place and I ordered a corto, which is like a fat little shot glass of beer. It's a perfect size for me! I can't say that the boys are too fond of it.

6) Tapas here are pintxos.

7) EVERYTHING but the chinos is closed on Sundays. I'm not used to things being closed for an entire day unless its a federal holiday. Also, banks close at 2, which is really annoying when you get off of work at 2.

8) The shutters in my piso are a blessing from God. I'll have to take a picture because I can't describe them, but they turn day into night.

9) For the first time in my life, I am not a short driving distance from the beach (which scares the shit out of me), yet I am still eating some pretty incredible seafood.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST...
10) People take their kids bar hopping with them. It is so strange walking into a bar at midnight and seeing kids chomping down on food while their parents are boozing it up. Not only does this happen at night, but during the day too. People start drinking here at 10am. Luckily, there is no smoking in the bars anymore so kids aren't taking in all the second hand smoke.

Now, some pictures from the weekend :)

Walking through the park
Drawing of the Camino de Santiago (Logroño is towards the top)
Damn right.
Occupy Logroño??
Before the march through town. Occupy Logroño at night.
